I have a doc in Word with tracked changes from three authors. It's as if I hit shkwing all deletions from this one author. I also rechecked the boxes to show changes from each author. And, of course, I turned it off and on again. Channges, and I compared it to my printout from this morning. That author had deletions showing then. So here's the really weird thing. I pulled up other docs with changes from these same /35609.txt and So somehow there's a "hide deletions from Joe Smith" or "accept all deletions from Joe Smith" checkbox somewhere.

When you said you rechecked the boxes to show changes from each author, is this what you meant? And turning it off and on again means clicking All Reviewers twice? It sounds like something has gotten "stuck" in Word's treatment of that person's user name.

The Track Change toggle switch appears dimmed when it is in the Off position. It also is disabled when Protection is in effect. Regardless of what is checked in the Markup Options the Display for Review determines whether the markup is shown.

In a Word document Protect Document can be applied even if the user chooses to not impose a password. I am becoming rather fond of the IA obsession to restate using many extra words what has already been stated succinctly. Sukie is amazing at it. He took a 20 word reply of mine and turned it into over words. It must have taken quite a bit of time and effort to do that.

I was amazed. In a different thread, someone posted a music video of the song "The Pretenders" and dedicated it to the IA folks in appreciation of their efforts.

Unlike Bob, I am glad you took the time to flatter Bob by pointing out the correctness of his reply. GvG would not have known Bob's reply was correct had you not pointed out its correctness.

The only other way GvG would know that Bob's advice is correct would be for GvG to simply follow Bob's advice without your encouragement. I also see absolutely no reason for clutter a thread with redundant responses which add nothing to the conversation.

As Jim pointed out, all the confirmation needed by the OP would be provided by following the directions in the reply. To send a user off to an extensive article which details a complete, multifaceted feature for the sake of 2 simple steps possibly buried somewhere within it is not IMO being at all helpful. If you know the answer, give it in the reply unless it is too complex or lengthy to reasonably do so.

However, this conversation is too far off-topic to be continued here, nor will it change anything. Bob is correct, the Track Changes may be locked by a password, and you may open the Tools menu and select Protect Document to confirm that. If this is not the case, would you mind sharing a screenshot to show the Review menu?
